PRODUCTION PROCESS
20# Steel Pipes Production Process:
20# steel pipes are manufactured using steel ingots or solid tube blanks that undergo processes such as perforation, hot rolling, cold rolling, or cold drawing.
The production of seamless pipes begins with round tube billets, which are cut into approximately 1-meter-long billets using a cutting machine. These billets are then transported to the furnace via a conveyor belt and heated to a temperature of around 1200°C using hydrogen or acetylene as fuel. Precise temperature control in the furnace is crucial.
Once heated, the round tube billets are pierced using a pressure piercer, with the cone roll piercer being a commonly used method. This piercer offers high production efficiency, excellent product quality, and the ability to accommodate various steel types. After piercing, the billets undergo cross-rolling, continuous rolling, or extrusion by three rolls.
Following extrusion, the tubes are sized by drilling holes into the billet using a high-speed rotary cone drill. The inner diameter of the steel pipe is determined by the length of the outer diameter of the drill bit on the sizing machine. After sizing, the steel pipes enter a cooling tower and are cooled by water spray. Once cooled, the pipes undergo straightening and are then subjected to internal flaw detection using a metal flaw detector or hydraulic test.
If any cracks, bubbles, or other issues are detected during the quality inspection of the steel pipes, they are carefully selected and sorted manually. After passing the quality inspection, the pipes are marked with serial numbers, specifications, production batch numbers, etc., using paint. Finally, the pipes are lifted into the warehouse using a crane.
